Playing away from home, Corinthians defeated Minas 92-81 to close the quarterfinal series 3-1 and secure a historic spot in the NBB semifinals. The match took place at Arena UniBH in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday (May 12), marking the first time the São Paulo club has advanced this far in the competition.
In the next round, Corinthians will face Pinheiros, who advanced by defeating Paulistano in three games. For Minas, last season’s NBB finalist, their campaign ends in the quarterfinals.
American guard DaVunta Thomas was the standout player, scoring a game-high 37 points along with seven rebounds and one assist. Corinthians playmaker Elinho orchestrated the offense with 12 assists. For Minas, Erick McCree led the scoring with 24 points.
Game Recap:
Minas started strong, opening a 9-0 lead and later stretching it to 12 points. However, Corinthians fought back, cutting the deficit to two points, ending the first quarter 22-20.
Corinthians took the lead in the second quarter at 36-34 and went into halftime ahead 46-45. After the break, Minas struggled to match Corinthians’ momentum. The visitors maintained their advantage and closed out the game with a comfortable 92-81 victory.
