The University of Missouri announced Monday that running back Ahmad Hardy is in stable condition after being shot at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning.
A first-team All-SEC selection last season, Hardy underwent surgery following the incident. According to ESPN, he is alert and moving around, with optimism surrounding his future football prospects, though no timeline for a return has been set.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Ahmad and his family,” the university stated. “He is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, and family. We will continue to support him and his family during this difficult time.”
Hardy, 20, was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and attended high school in nearby Monticello.
In his first college season at Louisiana-Monroe, he was named the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year after leading the conference with 1,351 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 237 carries.
After transferring to Missouri, Hardy ranked second among FBS players with 1,649 rushing yards last season, breaking the school’s single-season rushing record. He earned SEC Newcomer of the Year honors, was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, and became a consensus All-American, scoring 16 touchdowns and averaging 6.4 yards per carry on 256 attempts.
