Former Zenit striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov has proposed that goalkeeper Andrey Lunev be awarded a gold medal if Zenit clinches the Russian Premier League title this season. The suggestion came after Lunev delivered a standout performance for Dynamo Moscow in their 2-1 victory over Krasnodar on May 11.
Lunev made seven saves during the match, including a crucial stop against Juan Boselli in a one-on-one situation at the 85th minute. Impressed by the display, Kerzhakov wrote on Telegram: “If Zenit doesn’t lose in Rostov, give the gold medal to Lunev!!!”
Lunev previously played for Zenit from 2017 to 2021, winning three league titles with the club (2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21). His current team Dynamo defeated Krasnodar 2-1, with goals from Konstantin Tyukavin (48th minute) and Ivan Sergeev (90+3rd minute), while Diego Costa scored for Krasnodar in the 33rd minute.
Following the match, Zenit leads the RPL standings with 65 points, while Krasnodar sits second with 63. Zenit will play away against Rostov in the 30th round, while Krasnodar hosts Orenburg. Both matches are scheduled for May 17.
In the match, Dynamo dominated defensively despite fewer shots on target, with Lunev’s heroics earning him praise from the former striker. The result keeps Zenit’s title hopes alive, with a potential decisive match ahead.
